The White House

The White House. It is one of the most famous landmarks in the United States and the world. The White House is home to the President of the United States of America during his stay in office.

The White House is located at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue in Washington D.C., they capital of the United States of America. It has a very large green front lawn and was built in the year 1800 for $230,000 which is the equivalent of 2.3 million dollar today.

The first president to ever live in the White House was John Adams and every president resides with their family in this historical landmark. Every president except George Washington lived in the White House. Washington ordered construction of the building in the 1790’s.

The White House as 6 floors, 132 rooms and 35 bathrooms, 8 staircases, 3 elevators and 5 full-time chefs. Other accommodations include a bowling alley, track, and movie theater.

The White House has survived two fires. It was partially destroyed by a fire set by British forces in 1814 during the War of 1812 and then withstood another fire in the West Wing in 1929 while Herbert Hoover was the president.

There are two wings to the White House. These wings are known as the East Wing and the West Wing.

The West Wing of the White House includes the presidential office, known as the Oval Office as well as the Cabinet room and the presidential Situation Room. The Situation room is located in the basement of the West Wing of the White House and is used to handle domestic and foreign crises.

The Oval Office was constructed in 1909 and is the office of the President of the United States of America. This office features three windows, four doors, one each at the north, south, east, and west ends of the office, and one fireplace. The office is 18 and a half feet high and is 35 feet across on its longer axis.

The first ever president to occupy the Oval Office was President William H. Taft in 1909. Franklin D. Roosevelt had a new Oval Office constructed in 1933 allows more privacy for the President. There is an interesting story about the desk of the President. It is known as the Resolute Desk as it was built from the timbers of the HMS Resolute, a ship sent to search for famous explorer Sir John Franklin.

The situation room is located directly under the West Wing. It is used by government officials to deal with crisis at home and abroad when there is a credible risk on the White House.

The East Wing of the White House is home to the offices of the staff of the First Lady and the First Lady herself. This wing was constructed during World War II, with the primary objective of hiding the Presidential Emergency Operations Center which is located directly below the East Wing.

The Presidential Emergency Operations Center is designed to withstand a nuclear explosion and is only used in very serious situations where a credible risk occurs. This area is tube shaped and was occupied by many White House officials during the September 11 attacks when there was a credible threat on Washington.

The White House was not always known as it is currently is. Up until 1901 when Theodore Roosevelt took control of the government, it was known as the executive mansion. Roosevelt was also responsible for constructing the West Wing.

The White House has come to become one of the most important buildings in the United States. It has had a long and unique history and is one of the most interesting and most famous buildings in the US.
